Folly At Folstaff

CHAPTER 1
Inside his cobblestone tower, before his ornate high-glassed windows, the soon to be governor of Falstaff watched the city below. The sight of anarchy had grown in the once orderly town. It was the sight of chaos, the sight of plans set in motion long ago, and it was, for the Governor, the sight of impending victory.
“You come to me on the eve of my triumph and for what, a conversation?” Manning said calmly.
From a shadowy corner, John Relister emerged into the light.
“More than that you arrogant fool, and I’d hardly call what’s about to occur a triumph. More like your downfall”
“What are you babbling on about. Have Borrotor’s manipulations left you so fragile and self deluded to believe that the inevitable won’t occur. Its over, I have won. Accept it.”
Manning turned to John, a contemptuous smirk written on his pale face.
“For a time,” John said, courage building behind his words. “I probably was but not now. Now I finally see”
Behind the governor, an orange glow colored the glass. A roar of cries rising from the buildings entrance.
“What was that!” the governor cried, spinning and running to the window.
Below the high walls, and before the wooden doors of the governors building, a mass of angry people held pitches and torches.
“Your triumph,” a smirk appeared across John’s lips.
“What have you done!” roared Manning, his calm contempt quickly turning into uncontrolled hate.
